At delivery I added BFG AT 265/70/17, OME 50mm medium lift, Safari snorkel, ARB bar, IPF lights, Rhino rack and bag.

That looks great :D

I really like your little stubby aerial - how does it go ? Presumably it compares well to a 6db or so mounted on the bullbar ? Where does the coax go after it leaves the roof - how does it route into the cabin ?

Is that a plasma rope on the winch ? DId you go with that option for the weight saving and if so do you know roughly how much you save by doing that ?

Sorry...lots of questions... ;)

Thanks, UHF is half installed so I don't know how it performs however I am pretty sure due to the height it will outperform most bar mounted 6db antennas. The coax runs inside the roof rail channel under the plastic end cap and down the back door seal. I plan to run the coax into the car via the light.

Winch rope came from http://winchline.com/ I fitted it mainly for safety reasons. I didn't weigh the wire rope but I can tell you the synth rope weighs grams and the wire rope weighs many kilos.

The website you linked to has an FAQ that states the following:

5. How much weight will I save by going with synthetic?

By switching from steel cable to a synthetic winchline you will reduce the weight as follows:

* 5/16" x 100' of Steel Cable weights 18 lbs vs. 2.7 lbs for Synthetic, saving 15.3 lbs.
* 5/16" x 125' of Steel Cable weights 22.5 lbs vs. 3.375 lbs for Synthetic, saving 19.1 lbs
* 5/16" x 150' of Steel Cable weights 27 lbs vs. 4 lbs for Synthetic, saving 23 lbs.
* 3/8" x 100' of Steel Cable weights 26 lbs vs. 3.6 lbs for Synthetic , saving 22.4 lbs.

Additional weight can be saved by switching to Viking Delrin Rollers or a Aluminum Hawse Fairlead.

6. How much weight will I save by going with a Aluminum Fairlead over a stock Roller Fairlead

By switching from a stock roller fairlead that weigh about 13 lbs vs. the Aluminum Fairlead that weigh in under a pound you will reduce the weight by about 12 lbs.

That's pretty impressive. I know a lot of people are put off the idea of a winch because it's extra weight dangling over the front of the truck (especially if you don't want to HAVE TO upgrade your springs).

I'd be keen to find out how your UHF install continues.

Just trying to work out what sort of rails you used to attach that Rhino Rack mesh platform in the first picture - and does this interfere with your rail mounted antenna? It looks like you've removed the rack in the antenna pictures.

Standard Toyota (rebadged Rhino) rails. I haven't fitted the platform rack with the antenna however I am planning to line it up so the antenna pops through the rack. The platform rack was only for my tent which I won't be using now I have a camper trailer.

D4D,
Nice set up! I see you have a Tambo Cooper CT, as do I.

I was wondering what mods you may have done to the camper. I have the tool box on the front of mine and was concidering venting it so I can mount the 40lt Engel inside. Water and dust may be an issue though! I would then get a smaller fridge for the car.

The Tambo is still 'on order' it's due in March. I'm toying with the idea of making my own kitchen.

Here's my option list so far

Very nice D4D.... you wont be disappointed.

I didnt tick the electric break box, but after a number of trips up the Dargo High Plains Rd i think need to get them. Coming down the hill into Dargo with a full tank of water and all the camping gear can get a bit scarry at times.

More work on the UHF, ran the coax through the rear 1/4 panel, fitted base unit under seat, fitted mic clip with double sided tape. All that is left is to run dedicated power which I won't do until I get the dual batteries fitted. I am very happy with the performance of the antenna, I am hitting a repeater that is 75klm away...

When I bought the Icom I entered their 'Long Haul' competition. Got a call last week to say I had won. Went to the post office yesterday and collected my prize...a $500 BP fuel card :D I only spent $350 on the UHF

Finally got around to fitting my torch using couple of 'quick-fists' and some bolts. It's on a slight angle because I drilled out some factory holes that were moulded with thicker plastic. It seems to be holding ok but I might fit a piece of ally bar behind for extra support.

D4D,

I luv the ariel connection.....very stealth install on the roof rails.
I like what you've done with the torch holder. What did you use for them again.......A Quick-Fist? Sounds like an adult procedure.
.....only kiddn' mate.

Where did you source them from?
I've been looking for something similiar to fasten down my Maglight.

Regards

Stewy :D :D

You can also get genuine Maglite ones.

See here in "Little Things" thread: little Things

Any camping store that sells Maglites. Can't remember the cost as it was too long ago.

You can buy them from ARB. I prefer them to the Maglite clips as there is no chance of the torch popping out if the car is in a hard hit or accident etc.
